Diocese says priest apparently committed suicide


ST. JOSEPH, Mo. The Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph is mourning the loss of one of their own. According to a release from the diocese, Fr. Evan Harkins, a Pastor at St. James in St. Joseph, apparently took his own life.

St. Joseph police said they were called to the church around Tuesday around 9:40 a.m. Police add that this is an ongoing investigation.

The release from the Diocese says, "In the face of this devastatingly tragic news, we ask that you pray for Fr. Harkins, his family, and the parish and school communities that he served as well as all of our priests."
